Cathedral de la Madeleine

36" x 24"
Graphite on cradled Ampersand Claybord

In the last year, I have "discovered" a passion for drawing architectural subjects such as courthouses and cathedrals - especially those in the Romanesque style - and alleyways, with their plethora of textures reflecting time, change, and evolution. When creating a new artwork featuring one of these subjects, discovering how to render their various patterns and textures is like working out a puzzle. I am surprised how quickly some of these large drawings evolve as I learn how to render a particular surface or sculptural element of the building.
