As a pleinair artist, "discovery" is not just a theme of my work, it is the very essence of what I do. As so many have said before me, you never really see anything until you draw it, and more often than not you have to draw it more than once before you really see it.
I had drawn "Jeff's Gate" several times before I noticed the sunlit parts of the gate are as irregular as they are because the gate is so rusted. But this is why I love pleinair drawing: the adventure of discovery.
