Dahomey in the Cafe
29" x 29"
Resilient in its shape and form, the triangular composition of this drawing gives it the "fortitude" to stand on its own in a sea of negative space. And thus it justifies its existence, not by seeking to overwhelm the space but simply to blend with it. Syncretism has always been the path forward.
(Each juror has awarded a Juror Prize to a drawing that particularly captured them, for any reason. A copy of 'Ways of Drawing - Artists' Perspectives and Practices' by the Royal Drawing School, is given to each recipient of the 2020 MVDP Juror Prize.)
